Endodontics ( Root canal treatment)

What is the definition of endodontics?

The term “endodontics” is derived from the Greek words endo (inner) and odons (tooth). As understood from these definitions, endodontics is the branch of dentistry which intervenes and solves problems associated with the inner portions of teeth. In a more definite way of expressing, endodontics is the dentistry branch dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of the dental pulp (the nerve) and the tissues surrounding the tooth.

Non-surgical endodontic treatment

It is the most common way of root canal treatment. During non-surgical endodontic treatment, your dentist opens an access cavity to be able to reach the inner portion of your tooth.

Surgical endodontic treatment:
In this type of treatment, a surgical intervention is performed to reach the problematic region of the tooth. The most common ways of this treatment type are “ apicectomy” or “root-end resection”. During this procedure, gingival tissues around the tooth are surgically exposed and both the root end or infected tissues are removed.
